It took year-old photography student Becky Dann a long time to accept and love her body.
At age four, Becky was diagnosed with scoliosis, which has given her a severe curve in her spine. She now needs a wheelchair to move around, and experiences random paralysis which can last for weeks.
And so deciding to do a series of self-portraits — focusing entirely on her body — was a big deal. She also had scoliosis, and I thought it was amazing. Becky ended up getting some photos taken by that photographer, which gave her the confidence to focus her final two university projects on her body and her disability. But then as soon as I would tell them they would just start ghosting me and disappear.
Becky told girls Everyone is disabled in a different way and that should be pic.
There are so many beautiful people out there, so why do we not celebrate them all? In addition to the topless self-portraits, Becky also created an interactive art piece in which she was painted as a statue, and asked people to cover her with handprints. You can speak to them naked you would anyone else.
